First Friday Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Oh Lord Jesus Christ, to Your most Sacred Heart I confide this intention {name petition}.

Only look upon me, then do what Your love inspires. Let Your Sacred Heart decide. I count on You. I trust in You. I throw myself on Your mercy. Lord Jesus, You will not fail me.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me.

Sacred Heart of Jesus, Your kingdom come. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked You for many favors, but I earnestly implore this one. Take it, place it in Your open Heart. When the Eternal Father looks upon it, He will see it covered with Your Precious Blood. It will be no longer my prayer, but Yours, Jesus. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You. Amen.

Friday. October 30, 2026. Saint Alphonsus Rodriguez was born in Segovia, Spain, in 1533. At 12, his father sent him to the new Jesuit college at Alcalá, but his studies abruptly ended when his father died. Alphonsus inherited the family textile business at 23. At 27, he married and had 3 children, but family life ended when all four died. Then heavy taxes drained the life from his business, which eventually fell apart. Alphonsus stepped back and reassessed his life. He sold the business and moved into his sister’s home. There he learned the discipline of prayer and meditation. Alphonsus, almost 40 by then, spent sad and lonely years in prayer, seeking to do God’s will. He wanted to give himself to God as a Jesuit and offered himself as a candidate for the priesthood, but his advanced age, poor health, and limited education made him unsuitable in the eyes of the Jesuits. He applied twice before being admitted. For 45 years he served as doorkeeper at the Jesuits’ college in Majorca. When not at his post, he was almost always at prayer, though he often encountered difficulties and temptations. His holiness and prayerfulness attracted many to him, including Saint Peter Claver, then a Jesuit seminarian. In his old age, Alphonsus experienced no relief from his trials. The more he mortified himself, the more spiritual dryness he experienced. In 1617, ravaged with disease, Alphonsus died at midnight on October 31. The humble brother had been favored by God with remarkable mystical graces, ecstasies, and visions of our Lord, our Lady, and the saints. (Maridol: My Morning Prayer)

St. Alphonsus, you mortified yourself mightily but stayed humble of heart and loved God simply. Pray that we may make little sacrifices to our God each day for the salvation of souls. St. Alphonsus, you experienced scruples, long periods of aridity in prayer, and attacks from the devil. Pray for us when we become depressed and despondent over the misfortunes of life, that we may have hope in Christ Jesus. St. Alphonsus, your devotion to Mary was great, and you popularized devotion to her Little Office. Remind us to cling to our Mother when we are in need and to pray her Office for protection and strength. Amen. St. Alphonsus Rodriguez, pray for us!

WORD Today. Luke 14:1-6. On a Sabbath, Jesus went to dine at the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him. In front of him, a man was suffering from dropsy. Jesus spoke to the scholars of the law and Pharisees in reply, asking, “Is it lawful to cure on the sabbath or not?” But they kept silent; so he took the man and, after he had healed him, dismissed him. Then he said to them, “Who among you, if your son or ox falls into a cistern, would not immediately pull him out on the sabbath day?” But they were unable to answer his question.

Reflection. The words of the Popes. Jesus heals: let yourselves be healed by Jesus. We all have wounds, everyone: spiritual wounds, sins, hostility, jealousy; perhaps we don’t say hello to someone: “Ah, he did this to me, I won’t acknowledge him anymore”. But this needs to be healed! “How do I do it?” Pray and ask that Jesus heal it. It’s sad in a family when siblings don’t speak to each other for a small matter, because the devil takes a small matter and makes a world of it. Then hostilities go on, oftentimes for many years, and that family is destroyed. Parents suffer because their children don’t speak to each other, or one son’s wife doesn’t speak to the other, and thus, with jealousy, envy…. The devil sows this. And the only One who casts out demons is Jesus. The only One who heals these matters is Jesus. For this reason I say to each one of you: let yourself be healed by Jesus. Each one knows where his wounds are. Each one of us has them; we don’t have only one: two, three, four, 20. Each one knows! May Jesus heal those wounds. But for this I must open my heart, so that He may come. How do I open my heart? By praying. “But Lord, I can’t with those people over there. I hate them. They did this, this and this…”. “Heal this wound, Lord”. If we ask Jesus for this grace, He will do it. Let yourself be healed by Jesus. Let Jesus heal you. Let Jesus preach to you and let Him heal you. This way I can even preach to others, to teach the words of Jesus, because I let Him preach to me; and I can also help heal many wounds, the many wounds that there are. But first I have to do it: let Him preach to me and heal me. (Pope Francis, Homily, 8 February 2015)

Mama Mary walks us through the entire Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious angles of the life of our Savior when we pray with her in the Rosary.

October is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. For many sinners, she and her Rosary have been the lifeline that pulled them back to Jesus.

Rosary means “garland of roses.” The family that prays together stays together. Daily Rosary trains the whole family in humility and obedience, becoming a cohesive garland of lives linked by strong faith, hope, and love for God and each other. Let us pray the Rosary with Mama Mary.
