Albert del Rosario, Nellie Valdez, Toti Herbosa, Tec Syjuco, AL, Umberto Gonzales, Rufo Colayco, Dr. Rolando A. Florendo and Vicente de Villa,

O God, the Creator and Redeemer of all the faithful, grant to the souls of your departed servants the remission of all their sins, that through pious supplications they may obtain the pardon which they have always desired.  In Jesus’ name.  Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. May the love of God and the peace of the Lord Jesus Christ bless us and console us and gently wipe away every tear from our eyes. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Today the Church commemorates the souls of all the baptized who have died and yet who do not yet enjoy life with God in heaven. It is Catholic teaching that souls needing post-death purification can benefit from the prayers, alms, sacrifices, and Mass offerings of souls on earth. The Old Testament recounts the Jewish belief that the deceased benefit from temple sacrifice made on their behalf; continuing this practice, prayers for the dead were offered from the very earliest years of the Church. There has never been a time when the Church has not commemorated, remembered, and prayed for the dead. Few die with their souls so perfectly purified from sin and imperfection that they proceed directly to the Beatific Vision. No one at the moment of death would be most prepared for the intense light of God Himself to gaze into our imperfect souls. We would simply not be ready for such a holy searchlight examining our every dark corner. The soul first needs to be purified. Its sins must first be burned away in the fire of God’s merciful love. This is purgatory. It is the ante-chamber of heaven, the place of waiting and preparation where the soul is readied to enter and absorb the whitest of God’s light. But souls in purgatory have no free will or ability to atone by themselves for themselves. They depend on us. They advance in purification due to our prayers and offerings for them. This is why we pray for the dead and offer Masses for their advancement into heaven. The Feast of All Souls, then, is much more than a spiritual family reunion where we visit the graves of our ancestors and recall with a tear all the good times. All Souls Day longs for a deeper bond, for an ultimate reunion with God at the head of the family in heaven with all His saints and angels. Pope Francis said, “Today is a day of memory that takes us back to our roots. It is also a day of hope. It reminds us of what we can expect: the hope of encountering the love of the Father.” All Holy Souls, our prayers and Mass offerings are directed to you this day, in the hope that what we do on earth may benefit your advancement toward a fully divine life in heaven where you may, in turn, pray that we may one day join you there. Lord Jesus, Bread of Life, as this new day begins, I come before You with an open heart. Fill the hunger within me that no earthly thing can satisfy. Quench the thirst in my soul with Your presence and Your peace. Teach me to trust in You more deeply, believe in Your promises more fully, and to seek You above all else today. May Your Word guide “…To those who have been given much, much more will be required,” and Your grace strengthen Ester and me in all we do. Let me be kind and compassionate. I place this day in Your hands, Lord Jesus. Stay with us always, and lead us.

Lord, You raised my father, Amb. Atty. Manuel R. Cumagun to excel in good government and faithful service, and my mother for her children, who ingrained in us not to be friends with those who look down on persons whose family names carry less than their economic status, and most importantly, not to be like them and admire their pride that diminishes the dignity of anyone’s persona. And Ester’s father, Dr. Trino Montinola, who was a friend to all despite being a better man, and her mother, who helped relatives who needed economic and spiritual help in body and soul. May these ideals survive and flourish among their children and their children’s children through prayers and actions. The WHY Ester and I formed the Montinola Care Foundation (without first names) – let the wake of small business partnerships speak – of not only teaching the poor how to fish to help themselves, but more so with the fishing tools to help others help themselves to help others, creating multiplier effect wakes – not the founders’name. Let the geometric wakes with concerned generosity serve to strengthen the Kingdom of God through concerned patient prayer and justice before charity.

Joint Ventures Montinola Cumagun Trust Holdings will be pursued to help finance the primary purposes of the Montinola Cumagun Care Foundation and small business through 20% of the MC Trust Holdings’ earnings in the Joint Ventures.

Mention Your Request: “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise—‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’”( Ephesians 6:1–3)

“Charity is no substitute for justice withheld.” (St. Augustine of Hippo) Kindness, donations, or charitable acts cannot erase or fix a failure to give someone what they have rightfully earned or deserve. As detailed in discussions on Catholic 365, true love requires fulfilling the obligations of justice before or alongside acts of generosity.

WORD Today. John 6:37-40. Jesus said to the crowds: “Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day.”

Reflection, The words of the Popes. The resurrection of the crucified Jesus from the dead sheds light on the destiny of each one of us. For he told us: “This is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it on the last day” (Jn 6:39). Thus, the focus of God’s concerns is clear: that no one should perish forever and that everyone should have their own place and radiate their unique beauty (…). For this reason, Christians always remember the deceased in every Eucharist, and still today ask that those dear to them be remembered in the Eucharistic Prayer. From this proclamation arises the hope that no one will perish. May visiting the cemetery, where silence interrupts the hustle and bustle of life, invite us all to remember and to wait in hope. As we say in the Creed: “I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.” Let us commemorate, therefore, the future, for we are not enclosed in the past or in sentimental tears of nostalgia. Neither are we sealed within the present, as in a tomb. May the familiar voice of Jesus reach us, and reach everyone, because it is the only one that comes from the future. Mama Mary walks us through the entire Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious angles of the life of our Savior when we pray with her in the Rosary.

October is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. For many sinners, she and her Rosary have been the lifeline that pulled them back to Jesus.

Rosary means “garland of roses.” The family that prays together stays together. Daily Rosary trains the whole family in humility and obedience, becoming a cohesive garland of lives linked by strong faith, hope, and love for God and each other. Let us pray the Rosary with Mama Mary.
