Friday. October 23, 2026

Friday. October 23, 2026. Saint John Capistrano was born in Capistrano, Italy, in 1385; he was the son of a former German knight. He studied law, and after practicing as a lawyer in Naples, he was appointed the governor of Perugia. During a war with a neighboring city, he was imprisoned. He began to study theology. Upon his release in 1416, he entered a Franciscan community at Perugia. With guidance and his theological training, he grew into a brilliant, charismatic preacher. He traveled throughout Europe and Russia preaching to large crowds and helping to establish Franciscan communities. At 70, Rome and Vienna were under threat of siege. John was commissioned by Pope Callixtus III to incite a crusade to oppose the invasion. Extending his leadership beyond simply the pastoral sphere, the old and frail friar actually led his own contingent, served as a leader in the defense of Belgrade, and marched at the head of 70,000 soldiers who won a decisive victory in Belgrade in 1456. This feat earned him the moniker of ‘the Soldier Priest’.  Although he survived the battle, John fell victim to the bubonic plague, which flourished in the unsanitary conditions prevailing among armies of the day. He died on 23 October 1456.

St. John of Capistrano, glorious evangelical witness, as a priest “gave himself with great generosity for the salvation of souls.” Initiative, Organization, Activity. These three words characterized his life. His deep Christian optimism drove him to battle problems at all levels with the confidence engendered by a deep faith. (Maridol: My Morning Prayer)

WORD Today. Luke 12:54-59. Jesus said to the crowds, “When you see a cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does; and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time? “Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right? If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate, make an effort to settle the matter on the way; otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the constable, and the constable will throw you into prison. I say to you, you will not be released until you have paid the last penny.”

Reflection. The words of the Popes. Knowing the signs of the times. Times change, and it is Christian wisdom to recognize these changes, to recognize the different times and to recognize the signs of the times. To understand what one thing means and what another means. And to do this without fear, with freedom. This is a task we usually don’t do. Instead, we conform, we become tranquillized with “they told me; I heard; people say; I read…”, and we remain comfortable. Instead, we should ask ourselves: “What is the truth? What is the message that the Lord wants to give me with that sign of the times?” First and foremost, silence is necessary: to be quiet, to watch and observe. And afterwards to think within ourselves. For example: why are there so many wars now? Why did this thing happen? And to pray: silence, reflection and prayer. Only then can we understand the signs of the times and what Jesus wants to tell us. Times change, and we Christians must continually change. We must change, steadfast in the faith in Jesus Christ, steadfast in the truth of the Gospel, but our approach must constantly move according to the signs of the times. (Pope Francis, Homily at Santa Marta, 23 October 2015)

Oh Lord Jesus Christ, to Your most Sacred Heart I confide this intention – 90th Birthday and successful launching of the Montinola Cumagun Care Foundation, and for my children and their children, faithfully support the MC Care Foundation. Only look upon me, then do what Your love inspires. Let Your Sacred Heart decide. I count on You. I trust in You. I throw myself on Your mercy. Lord Jesus, You will not fail me. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I trust in You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I believe in Your love for me. Sacred Heart of Jesus, Your kingdom come. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I have asked You for many favors, but I earnestly implore this one. Take it, place it in Your open Heart. When the Eternal Father looks upon it, He will see it covered with Your Precious Blood. It will be no longer my prayer, but Yours, Jesus. Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in You. Amen

Beata John Paul 1, watch over Amy Ylagan’s PT recovery, Cristina C and Justice Jun’s health, Ester’s stoma adhesion recovery, and our autistic son John Paul’s emotional stability at 57.

Mama Mary walks us through the entire Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious angles of the life of our Savior when we pray with her in the Rosary.

October is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. For many sinners, she and her Rosary have been the lifeline that pulled them back to Jesus.

Rosary means “garland of roses.” The family that prays together stays together. Daily Rosary trains the whole family in humility and obedience, becoming a cohesive garland of lives linked by strong faith, hope, and love for God and each other. Let us pray the Rosary with Mama Mary.
