Sunday. August 23, 2026. Saint Rose of Lima was born in Peru. The beauty of her infant face earned for her the title of Rose. As a young girl growing up, she was given to austerities: fasting and mortification. Because her parents denied her permission to enter a convent, and because she preferred not to marry, she endured much misunderstanding. She continued, however, to remain at home, but she lived a secluded life. To do her share in supporting the family, she did needlework and sold the flowers she cultivated. At 20, she joined the Third Order of St. Dominic and converted a little hut in the backyard into a hermitage, where she often went to pray. She also transformed a room in her parents’ house into a sort of infirmary, where she cared for destitute children and elderly people. She took St. Catherine of Siena as her model, and redoubled her penance. The Blessed Sacrament seemed almost her only food. Her love for it was intense. All her sufferings were offered for the conversion of sinners, and the thought of the multitudes in hell was ever before her soul. She died at 31. St. Rose of Lima is the first saint from the Americas. What might have been a merely eccentric life was transfigured from the inside – we should remember the greatest thing about Rose: a love of God so ardent that it withstood ridicule from without, violent temptation, and lengthy periods of sickness. The Mass prayer on her feast day recalls her austerity of life and the fervor of her love of God. (Maridol My Morning Prayer)

Saint Rose, pray for us that we may one day glorify the Blessed Trinity in heaven. Obtain for us your lively faith that we may consider all people, things, and events in the light of God. Pray that we may be generous in making sacrifices of worldly things as you so wisely did. Please also pray for me and my intentions (State your intentions here). Seek this, our favor. “Ester, and I thank you for your blessings and grace for our children to support the MONTINOLA-CUMAGUN CARE FOUNDATION’S FOUR LEGS of PURPOSE: (1.) Special Children SPED; a child’s mind is the most precious thing to waste. (The motto of the American Negro College), and the Handicapped Senior Citizens – Physical Therapy. (2.) Financial Support for Diocesan priests and Grade School Teachers for the rural areas. (3.) Computer Start-up Education Tools for selected public schools. “… expose and acclimate the youth to Information Technology—the age of computers. The children of Negros Occidental must be computer literate to better their lives for the future and help our country progress to a global economy. Estonia and Finland, two countries smaller than ours, have put into their laws that Access to the Internet is a right of all citizens, similar to access to water and electricity.” [Negros Economic Development Foundation 40th Charter Foundation Day, Antonio G. Cumagun, Guest Speaker, Bacolod City, July 24, 2010] and (4.) Selected Start-up Management and Financial Support for Small Businesses as multipliers. ” … From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.” Luke 12:48. The sin of the rich man was not that he did wrong things, but that he did nothing. (A.G.C. Autobiography Song of Myself Memoirs, Looking Back at Serendipity, 2002). Be for the greater glory of God and the good of my soul. Our Father, Hail Mary, & Glory be. St. Rose of Lima: Pray for Us.

WORD Today. Matthew 16:13-20. Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi, and he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whate ver you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Then he strictly ordered his disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
Reflection. The words of the Popes. At the heart of today’s Gospel lies the question that Jesus asked his disciples. Today he asks us that same question, challenging us to examine whether our faith life retains its energy and vitality, and whether the flame of our relationship with the Lord still burns bright: “Who do you say that I am?” (Mt 16:15).
Every day, at every moment in history, we must always take this question to heart. If we want to keep our identity as Christians from being reduced to a relic of the past, as Pope Francis often reminded us, it is important to move beyond a tired and stagnant faith. We need to ask ourselves: Who is Jesus Christ for us today? What place does he occupy in our lives and in the life of the Church? How can we bear witness to this hope in our daily lives and proclaim it to those whom we meet?
Brothers and sisters, the exercise of a discernment born of these questions can enable our faith and the faith of the Church to be constantly renewed and to find new paths and new approaches to preaching the Gospel. This, together with communion, must be our greatest desire. (Pope Leo XIV, Homily, 29 June 2025)

Today I hear You ask Your question, “Who do you think I am?” You are our Lord, who says, ‘Follow me’. Because of Your immense love for me, I know who You are, and I give thanks to You.
Lord, I pray for courage and faith in my heart. I pray to be the “rock”; to have a firm foundation, strength to face adversity, and compassion when sorrow is around me.
