Wednesday. September 2, 2026

Wednesday. September 2, 2026. Saint Ingrid was born to the Swedish nobility, was well educated, and was known from her youth as a pious girl. Given in an arranged marriage when young, she was widowed soon after; she and her sister became a part of a circle of pious females. They formed an informal convent under the leadership of Ingrid by adopting the habit of the Dominicans and practicing its rules. Ingrid made pilgrimages to Santiago de Compostela, Jerusalem, and Rome. After the death of her sister, Ingrid applied for formal recognition of her convent called St Martin’s in Skänninge, which was formally recognised in 1281, 1 year before her death. She died in 1282 surrounded by an aura of sanctity; her remains became objects of veneration, and many miracles have been reported at her tomb. She became the first Dominican nun in Sweden and founded the first Dominican cloister in Sweden. She was, however, not formally recognized by the Pope as a saint; only when her relative, Bridget of Sweden, was formally canonized in 1391 did it cause a need to have Ingrid recognized as a saint as well, but formal canonization seems never to have occurred. She is regarded as a saint by many and has her feast day listed on the liturgical calendar. During the Reformation, her cult came to an end, and her convent and relics were destroyed. Her life serves as an inspiration for Christians to emulate her dedication to prayer, service, and devotion to others. St. Ingrid’s legacy continues to be honored and celebrated by those who admire her virtues and her impact on her community. {Maridol: My Morning Prayer}

Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts on Blessed Ingrid. Help us to imitate her virtues during our earthly life and enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven. Jesus, help me to see all of the little miracles that You give me.

Saint Ingrid, intercede for me; help me journey safely on the narrow path that leads to heaven. Grant us assistance to the objectives and faithful in our governance of the Monyinola Cumagun Care Foundation.  Amen

WORD Today. Luke 4:38-44. After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her.

He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases brought them to him. He laid his hands on each of them and cured them. And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.” But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ. At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place. The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him, they tried to prevent him from leaving them. But he said to them, “To the other towns also I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God, because for this purpose I have been sent.” And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Reflection. That day was a sabbath. The people of the village wait for sundown and then, the obligation of rest having ended, they go out and bring to Jesus all the sick and those who are possessed. And he heals them, but forbids the demons to reveal that he is the Christ. Thus, from the very beginning, Jesus shows his predilection for people suffering in body and in spirit: it is a predilection of Jesus to draw near to people who suffer both in body and in spirit. It is the Father’s predilection, which he incarnates and manifests with deeds and words. His disciples were eyewitnesses to this; they saw this and then witnessed to it. But Jesus did not want them to be mere spectators of his mission: he involved them; he sent them; he also gave them the power to heal the sick and cast out demons. And this has continued without interruption in the life of the Church, until today. And this is important. Taking care of the sick of every kind is not an “optional activity” for the Church, no! It is not something extra, no. Taking care of the sick of every kind is an integral part of the Church’s mission, as it was for Jesus. (Pope Francis, Angelus, 7 February 2021)

Dearest Lord, I come to You today just as I am. You know my heart, my worries, and my struggles. Please reach out to me and to the children, my love and concern for their being enabling children. Touch them with Your healing hands. Give us strength when we feel weak, peace when our hearts are troubled, and hope when we feel discouraged. Teach me to have a heart like Yours—compassionate, loving, and always willing to help others. And when life becomes busy, remind me to pause and spend time with You. Jesus, I place everything that is in my heart into Your loving hands. Heal us, guide us, that our governance of the Montinola Cumagun Care Foundation leads us closer to loving God and our neighbor as we love ourselves.
