Saturday. September 12, 2026. The feast of the Holy Name of Mary follows that of her Birthday, as the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus follows Christmas. The feast originated in Spain and was approved by the Holy See in 1513 and was extended to the whole Church in thanksgiving to our Lady. “And the name of the virgin was Mary.” (St. Luke, I, 27) In this simple phrase, St. Luke sums up the greatness of Mary, as epitomized in her holy name. The name of Mary was chosen by the Most High for the fairest of the daughters of Eve, the mother of His Divine Son, and was revealed to Anne and Joachim by the angel Gabriel. The name Mary is supposed to stem from the word “yam” – sea; “mar,” “mir,” “mor” – bitter sea, mistress of the sea, or the best known, “star of the sea.” Others find profound meaning by tracing Mary to “moras,” – hope; “mar” the bitter one; “maron” the exalted one, “moren,” the rising one, “marsh,” the enlightener, “mor,” myrrh. All these are ingenious but are not etymologically tenable. In all probability, the name Mary goes back to the Egyptian language. It can be derived from the Egyptian root, “mir,” love, and “jam,” “jahu,” Yahu, Yahwe, God; so that Mirjam means “God-loving,” or “beloved of God.” In Mary’s time it was common to derive the name from Maron, the Exalted One, corresponding to our Madonna, Notre Dame, Our Blessed Mother or Our Blessed Lady.
We venerate the name of Mary because it belongs to her who is the Mother of God, the holiest of creatures, the Queen of Heaven and Earth, the Mother of Mercy. The feast commemorates all the privileges given to Mary by God and all the graces we have received through her intercession and mediation.” On this day, let us repeat that wonderful prayer of Saint Bernard, to “invite everyone to become a trusting child before Mary, ‘Look to the star of the sea, call upon Mary … in danger, in distress, in doubt, think of Mary, call upon Mary. May her name never be far from your lips, or far from your heart … If you follow her, you will not stray; if you pray to her, you will not despair; if you turn your thoughts to her, you will not err. If she holds you, you will not fall; if she protects you, you need not fear; if she is your guide, you will not tire; if she is gracious to you, you will surely reach your destination”.The feast of the Holy Name of Mary follows that of her Birthday, as the Feast of the Holy Name of Jesus follows Christmas. Memorial of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary
O God, whose Son, dying on the Cross, willed that the most Blessed Virgin Mary, whom he had chosen as his Mother, should be our Mother also, graciously grant, we pray, that we, who fly to her protection, may find comfort by invoking our Mother’s name. “Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection was left unaided. . .”
Grant, we pray, that, for all who celebrate the glorious Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, she may obtain our merciful favor. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever. Amen (Maridol: My Morning Prayer)
Blessed Mother Mary, bless this day and help us walk in Your truth. Fill our hearts with peace and our minds with clarity. As we continue our journey, guide our steps and help us honor You in all that we do. (Repost Lit Del Rosario)

WORD Today. Luke 6:43-49. Jesus said to his disciples: “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles. A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good, but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil; for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks. “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I command? I will show you what someone is like who comes to me, listens to my words, and acts on them. That one is like a man building a house, who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock; when the flood came, the river burst against that house but could not shake it because it had been well built. But the one who listens and does not act is like a person who built a house on the ground without a foundation. When the river burst, it collapsed at once and was destroyed.”
Reflection. The Rock. That’s what the Lord is. Those who entrust themselves to the Lord will always remain safe, because their foundations are sunk into the Rock. That’s what Jesus says in the Gospel. He speaks about a wise man who built his house on rock, that is, on trust in the Lord and on serious things. And this trust is a noble thing, because the foundation of this building of our lives is sure and strong. Even in our own lives, it can happen when my foundations are not strong. The storm comes – and we all have storms in our lives, all of us – and we are unable to stand firm. Many say: ‘No, I’ll change my life.’ They think making life changes is like putting on makeup. Changing my life requires changing the foundations of my life; the Rock that is Christ. ‘I would like to renovate this building because it’s extremely ugly, so I would like to make it a little more beautiful and strengthen the foundation.’ But if all I do is put on makeup, then things won’t go far; it will fall. Christian life falls.” We cannot build our lives on passing things, on appearances, on acting like everything is going fine. We go to the rock, where our salvation awaits. And there we will all – each one of us – be happy.” (Pope Francis, Santa Marta, 5 December 2019)

Holy Father of the Most High, may the words I speak and the actions I take come from a heart that is rooted deeply in You. When life brings storms, help me to hear Your words and to live by them, to build my life on the solid foundation of faith, trust, and obedience. May my heart always bear good fruits of kindness, patience, love, and generosity. Keep me close to You, so that whatever storms come, I will remain standing with You. In Your Holy name, Jesus, I pray. Amen
