Tuesday. September 29, 2026. Angels are pure, created spirits. The name angel means servant or messenger of God. Angels are celestial or heavenly beings, on a higher order than human beings. They have no bodies and do not depend on matter for their existence or activity. They are distinct from saints, which men can become. Angels have intellect and will, and are immortal. They are a vast multitude, but each is a person, entrusted with extraordinary missions. Angels lived through a period of probation during which they could merit each according to his works. The great variety of merit explains, in addition to other natural elements, the great difference in their glory and in their power. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that, “The existence of the spiritual, non-corporeal beings that Sacred Scripture calls ‘angels‘ is a truth of faith.
St. Michael
The name of the archangel Michael means, in Hebrew, who is like unto God and he is also known as “the prince of the heavenly host.” He is usually pictured as a strong warrior, dressed in armor and wearing sandals. His name appears in Scripture four times, twice in the Book of Daniel, and once each in the Epistle of St. Jude and the Book of Revelation. From Revelation we learn of the battle in heaven, with St. Michael and his angels combating Lucifer and the other fallen angels. We invoke St. Michael to help us in our fight against Satan, especially at the hour of death. Saint Michael’s battle cry: “Who is like God?” will continue to scare and shatter all the forces of evil, and his powerful intervention in the struggle on behalf of the children of God will never cease.
St. Gabriel
St. Gabriel’s name means “God is my strength.” Biblically, he appears three times as a messenger. He had been sent to Daniel to explain a vision concerning the Messiah. He appeared to Zachary when he was offering incense in the Temple, to foretell the birth of his son, St. John the Baptist. St. Gabriel is most known as the angel chosen by God to be the messenger of the Annunciation, to announce to mankind the mystery of the Incarnation.
The angel’s salutation to our Lady, so simple and yet so full of meaning, Hail Mary, full of grace, has become The Constant prayer of all Christian people. Saint Gabriel, who with a mighty voice will call the dead to life and to judgment.
St. Raphael
His name means “God has healed.” Our knowledge of the Archangel Raphael comes to us from the book of Tobit. His mission as a wonderful healer and fellow traveller with the youthful Tobias has caused him to be invoked for journeys and at critical moments in life. Tradition also holds that Raphael is the angel who stirred the waters at the healing sheep pool in Bethesda. The health-giving ministry of Saint Raphael may still be seen in the miraculous cures that have taken place in many of the sacred Shrines throughout the Christian world.
Guardian Angel Novena – Day 7
Loving God, you are so good that you gave me a Guardian Angel to protect my body and my soul. Help me to know and follow my angel so that, with their guidance, I will be worthy of being in Heaven with You!
My sweet Guardian Angel, you are my intercessor every day of my life. Speak for me to the Lord. Ask Him to help me see His loving face. Speak to him about my life and whisper my prayers into his ear so that I may be the person that God is calling me to be. WORD Today. John 1:47-51. Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him.” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
Reflection. The words of the Popes. The Evangelist tells us that when Jesus sees Nathanael approaching, he exclaims: “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no guile!” (Jn 1: 47). This is praise reminiscent of the text of a Psalm: “Blessed is the man… in whose spirit there is no deceit” (32[31]: 2), but provokes The Credouriosity of Nathanael, who answers in amazement: “How do you know me?” (Jn 1: 48). Jesus’ reply cannot immediately be understood. He says: “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you” (Jn 1: 48). We do not know what had happened under this fig tree. It had to do with a decisive moment in Nathanael’s life. His heart is moved by Jesus’ words; he feels understood, and he understands: “This man knows everything about me; he knows and is familiar with the road of life; I can truly trust this man”. And so he answers with a clear and beautiful confession of faith: “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” (Jn 1: 49). In this confession is conveyed a first important step in the journey of attachment to Jesus. (Benedict XVI, General Audience, 4 October 2006)
Saints Michael, Gabriel and Raphael. Heavenly King, You have given us archangels to assist us during our pilgrimage on earth. Saint Michael is our protector; I ask him to come to my aid, fight for all my loved ones, and protect us from danger. Saint Gabriel is a messenger of the Good News; I ask him to help me clearly hear Your voice and to teach me the truth. Saint Raphael is the healing angel; I ask him to take my need for healing and that of everyone I know, lift it to Your throne of grace, and deliver us back to the gift of recovery. Help us, O Lord, to realize more fully the reality of archangels and their desire to serve us. Holy angels, pray for us. Amen.
Lord of Heaven and Earth, thank You for knowing us completely and loving us just as we are; help us to recognize You, even when we do not fully understand. Like Nathanael, may we come to You with open hearts, willing to know You more deeply.
Strengthen our faith, Lord, so that we may confidently say, “You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel.” Lord Jesus, help us to believe in You and so we shall see what You have prepared for us. Amen
