Business Enterprises are not Legacy: The wake it leaves is Legacy

Let the Foundation’s Good Work speak, not the family name.

Friday. October 16, 2026. Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was born in Burgundy. Her father was a prosperous notary; the family owned a country house and farmland. Her father died of pneumonia when she was 8, and his death put his family in hard straits. Margaret was sent to school with the Ursuline Sisters; she loved the peace and order of the convent life, and the nuns were so impressed by her devotion that she was allowed to make her First Communion at the age of 9. A rheumatic affliction kept her bedridden for 4 years; she was brought home, but her father’s relatives had moved in and taken over the farm and household. She and her mother were treated almost as servants. Her relatives tried to regulate her; she was not allowed to attend church. It grieved her deeply. Her eldest brother’s coming of age saved them, for the property now reverted to him, and the family again had undisputed possession of their home.

Margaret, inspired by a vision, made her profession at the convent of the Visitation at Paray-le-Monial, famed for their humility and selflessness. As a novice, she excelled in these virtues; she was called Margaret Mary. She began a course of mortifications and penances. Margaret Mary began to have experiences which seemed to be of supernatural origin. The first of these occurred on December 27, 1673, when she was kneeling at the grille in the chapel; she felt suffused by the Divine Presence, and heard the Lord inviting her to take the place which St. John had occupied at the Last Supper. The Lord told her that the love of His heart must spread and manifest itself to men, and He would reveal its graces through her. This was the beginning of a series of revelations covering a period of 18 months. When Margaret Mary went to the Superior, with an account of these mystical experiences, chosen as the transmitter of a new devotion to the Sacred Heart, she was reprimanded for her presumption. Seriously overwrought, Margaret Mary became very ill. The Mother Superior reflected that she might have erred in scorning the nun’s story and vowed that if her life were spared, she would take it as a sign that the visions and messages were truly from God. When Margaret Mary recovered, the Superior invited some theologians who happened to be in the town to hear the story. These priests listened and judged her to be a victim of delusions. Their examination had been a sheer torture to Margaret Mary. Later, a Jesuit, Father Claude de la Columbiere, talked to her and was completely convinced of the genuineness of the revelations. She related how Christ told her that he wanted her to announce his infinite love for mankind and his desire that he should be honoured through the display of this image of his heart, with the promise that all who did so would be especially blessed. One of the promises made by Christ: “I will bless every place where a picture of my Sacred Heart shall be exposed and honoured.”

In 1683, the account of Margaret Mary’s visions was read aloud in the refectory from the writings left by Father Claude. She became Novice Mistress, and the convent observed the feast of the Sacred Heart in1686, and 2 years later, a chapel was built at Paray-le-Monial to honor the Sacred Heart; soon observation of the feast of the Sacred Heart spread to other Visitation convents. At 43, while serving a second term as assistant superior, Margaret Mary fell ill. Sinking rapidly, she received the Last Sacraments.

Saint Margaret Mary and Blessed Claude La Colombiere are called the “Saints of the Sacred Heart”; the devotion was officially recognized and approved 75 years after her death. The Sacred Heart is regarded as “the symbol of that boundless love, dying on the Cross, to offer Himself as a victim and sacrifice to the eternal Father.” Born in 1647 AD in Burgundy. WORD Today. Luke 12:1-7. At that time: So many people were crowding together that they were trampling one another underfoot. Jesus began to speak, first to his disciples: “Beware of the leaven–that is, the hypocrisy–of the Pharisees.

“There is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, nor secret that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed on the housetops. I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body but after that can do no more. I shall show you whom to fear. Be afraid of the one who, after killing, has the power to cast into Gehenna; I tell you, be afraid of that one. Are not five sparrows sold for two small coins? Yet one has escaped the notice of God. Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid. You are worth more than sparrows.”

Reflection. The words of the Popes. Jesus sends the disciples out on their mission and (…) he draws a parallel between what we hear “in private,” namely, what is in the secret of our hearts, and what we are called to proclaim to everyone. He reminds us that proclaiming the Gospel is first and foremost a sharing of a personal encounter with him, which is unique to each of us.

The strength of any apostolate, in fact — beyond techniques and tools — comes from the work of the Holy Spirit within us and from the authenticity of our response. Saint Thomas Aquinas spoke of preaching as passing on to others what we have contemplated: “contemplata aliis tradere” (cf. Summa Theologiae, III, q. 40, a. 1, ad 2). (…)

Now, just as then, it is a challenge to remain faithful to Jesus’ teachings and to proclaim his word: to respond to hatred with love, to arrogance with meekness, and to discouragement with perseverance. For this reason, we must deepen the roots of our faith and our mission in an intimate relationship with him (cf. Francis, Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, 8). This gives us the strength not to despair, but to continue to share with everyone, in every circumstance, his message of hope, love and peace. The world greatly needs it! Mama Mary walks us through the entire Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, and Glorious angles of the life of our Savior when we pray with her in the Rosary.
October is the month of Our Lady of the Rosary. For many sinners, she and her Rosary have been the lifeline that pulled them back to Jesus

Rosary means “garland of roses.” The family that prays together stays together. Daily Rosary trains the whole family in humility and obedience, becoming a cohesive garland of lives linked by strong faith, hope, and love for God and each other. Let us pray the Rosary with Mama Mary.
